Design thinking, service design, co-design and a growing list of allied and interconnected terms and practices are currently very popular in numerous industries, the public sector and within education. To cater for this, there is an ever-growing industry that offers these services.

Professional practice

I have worked as a professional designer for over twenty years. In a world where design practices are increasingly being applied to problem solving, organisational effectiveness, as well as research, I believe that a professional industry-informed approach is critical. During my career, I have been involved in numerous design and communication projects; for print, interaction and online, as well as advising, developing and managing creative process facilitation. I have developed and taught courses and workshops for in-house communications teams, including design thinking, branding principles and publishing workflow processes. I have collaborated with writers, developers, project managers and other stakeholders to produce various creative solutions. I have also worked in collaboration with diverse groups, to discuss, plan and implement organisational communications strategies.

Education background

My professional experience is backed up by an extensive formal design education and research practice. I have a PhD in Design from the school of Media and Communication at RMIT University in Melbourne. My industry-focussed research investigated everyday professional relationships between designers and stakeholders, using innovative design research practices. I also hold a professional practice focussed Masters degree in Design from Central St Martins, in London.

By drawing on innovative research practices, alongside my established industry experience, I look enjoy working with like-minded people and organisations.
